- # [21:19] <Funktr0n> yzen: you around?
- # [21:19] <@yzen> Funktr0n yeah
- # [21:20] <Funktr0n> yzen: okay, working on bug 1135233 and had a question about strategy
- # [21:20] <@firebot> https://bugzil.la/1135233 — NEW, bugzilla@imross.com — [Accessibility] Utility tray statusbar-tray is inaccessible.
- # [21:22] <Funktr0n> yzen: it seems to me that there are a few different ways we can go here. we can try to use tabindex to reset the order of the statusbar-tray items OR we can duplicate the elements being used as the -moz-background and insert them into the new spot
- # [21:22] <@yzen> Funktr0n yes so what happens there is that we just display an element with -moz-element style on it (which just reflects the status bar as a background). What we need to do is: 1) figure out if we suppose to show maximized or minimized status bar in utility tray (i think it's min) 2) when the utility tray is opened, ensure that we show that status bar on screen
- # [21:23] <@yzen> Funktr0n we actually keep rendering the real status bar but have it off screen (or with no visibility) but instead when the utility tray opening transition is finished we need to place the status bar back where it belongs
- # [21:24] <Funktr0n> yzen: right but that messes up the ordering
- # [21:24] <@yzen> Funktr0n ah the tab index ?
- # [21:24] <Funktr0n> yzen: the date gets read AFTER the icons
- # [21:24] <Funktr0n> yzen because the icons actually appear before the date in the DOM
- # [21:25] <Funktr0n> yzen so I was thinking we could use tabindex?
- # [21:25] <@yzen> Funktr0n i think that would be a different bug though, we had that issue before even
- # [21:25] * davidb is now known as davidb|afk
- # [21:25] <Funktr0n> yzen Oh, so this one's a little simpler than I was thinking
- # [21:25] <@yzen> Funktr0n tabindex is one but i think we might consider implementing some support for aria-owns or something like that in AccessFu
- # [21:25] <@yzen> Funktr0n yeah, this main issue is about simply getting access to the status bar
- # [21:26] <Funktr0n> yzen and in particular, you're talking about seeing the VC, right?
- # [21:26] <Funktr0n> yzen because right now you can still navigate to the items (they're just off screen)
- # [21:26] <@yzen> Funktr0n seeing the VC as well as being able to explore the icons by touch
- # [21:27] <Funktr0n> yzen you can actually navigate to things UNDERNEATH the status tray (like the rocket bar)
- # [21:27] <Funktr0n> yzen right, got it
- # [21:28] <@yzen> Funktr0n yeah those issues around being able to navigate where we're not supposed to are a pain, we would have to fix all of them at some point, but with the statusbar and other system components, as a rule i try to make patches as small as possible or you risk some regression
- # [21:28] <@yzen> especially when solving issues around css visibility/transitions etc
- # [21:30] <Funktr0n> yzen okay, yeah, was just about to ask: as a rule of thumb, when should I think "big" about changes that need to be made in a bug vs. thinking "small" and only sticking to the listed issues. I know in the past we've gone beyond the call of duty so to speak but also recently, I've tried to be a little more comprehensive and found that not to be the best choice
- # [21:32] <@yzen> Funktr0n yeah, i had some 1 line changes in system (around statusbar) that would cause 2-3 follow up regressions and then would have pretty big changes with less of a negative impact :S
- # [21:32] <Funktr0n> yzen so visibility and/or high-utility system items are just a "touchy subject"?
- # [21:32] <@yzen> Funktr0n for sure
- # [21:33] <Funktr0n> yzen Ok, understand now
- # [21:33] <@yzen> Funktr0n you ll also have much less of a push back from module owners about the changes if they are small
