  18. # [03:14] <abernier> hi Tantek
  19. # [03:15] <abernier> did you receive my suggestion about your shortener URL?
  20. # [03:25] <abernier> In my mind t.tk would be ideal for you much more than ttk.me, just wanted to share the idea with you
  21. # [03:27] <@tantek> hmm
  22. # [03:28] <@tantek> what registrar supports .tk? any idea of annual cost?
  23. # [03:29] <abernier> I've just seen .tk was valid domain name extension, haven't searched a lot after this...
  24. # [03:30] <@tantek> seems like t.tk tn.tk and tan.tk are already registered by squatters
  25. # [03:30] <abernier> :s
  26. # [03:32] <abernier> I'm very curious about your implementation of Whistle, do you plan releasing it under any open license? (and also complete the description of it: http://tantek.pbworks.com/Whistle)
  27. # [03:34] <@tantek> abernier - yes I plan on releasing Whistle as open source when it is a bit more developed
  28. # [03:35] <@tantek> the majority of it is already open source as CASSIS
  29. # [03:35] <@tantek> http://cassisproject.com/
  30. # [03:35] <@tantek> Whistle is written in CASSIS and uses CASSIS library functions.
  31. # [03:36] <@tantek> I'm making sure the architecture/design works well for multiple content types, navigation schemes etc. before releasing it - I'd rather avoid unintentionally creating a bunch of shortlink deadends through a prematurely released tool :)
  32. # [03:37] <abernier> this is great news
  33. # [03:38] <abernier> I've took a look at cassis, but I'm not sure having well understood... for example, I read H2VX was using it, but I didn't understand where...
  34. # [03:39] <@tantek> abernier H2VX is using it in the processing of the user-friendly H2VX URLs.
  35. # [03:39] <@tantek> as well as in the UI on the front-end for generating said URLs
  36. # [03:39] <@tantek> you can see the front-end uses cassis.js directly as javascript

  142. # [20:46] <csarven> Heya tantek Thanks for responding to latlon shorthand and geo link. I think our discussion has some overlap and some differences. Where we agree is that the rendered "lat:45.5140800; long:-73.6111000" text is more user friendly than the @title "45.5140800;-73.6111000" text. What I was suggesting is that, given bare bone <a href="http://www.geonames.org/6077243">Montréal, Quebec, Canada</a> geo link, we can turn that into a geo microformat
  143. # [20:50] <csarven> I totally agree that the rendered version is friendlier, however, using it in @title retains the intended rendered content as is

  145. # [20:53] <@tantek> the problem then is that the only other option is to use value-title and hide the data completely which is obviously non-optimal
  146. # [20:54] <@tantek> and basically equivalent to not providing it at all
  147. # [20:54] <@tantek> since providing hidden data is essentially the same as providing data that is untrustworthy
  148. # [20:54] <@tantek> the code that provides it will eventually break, go out of date etc., and no one will notice
  149. # [20:54] <@tantek> (because it is hidden)
  150. # [20:55] <@tantek> so better to not introduce the problem in the first place
