  30. # [11:33] <Marcos> MikeSmith: thanks
  31. # [11:35] <MikeSmith> np
  32. # [11:35] <Marcos> MikeSmith: I think they are over complicating
  33. # [11:36] <anne2> ... because?
  34. # [11:38] <Marcos> anne2: the hidden page thing is scary (as it continuously runs even though the user thinks they've closed the app). All the back and forth between the hidden page and the foreground page seems overly complicated; why not figure out a way to just do it in the same page (as widgets do)?
  35. # [11:42] <anne2> how do you handle multiple shared instances of widgets?
  36. # [11:42] <anne2> I thought that was not possible
  37. # [11:45] <Marcos> Right. It's not possible. The best we could do is maybe have shared localStorage. But that would be messy.... however, you could simply create virtual independent <iframes> within a single document and drag those around.
  38. # [11:45] <Marcos> That could serve as multiple "windows"
  39. # [11:45] <anne2> that would mean duplicating browser chrome
  40. # [11:46] <anne2> and counter to what people are doing today
  41. # [11:46] <anne2> e.g. I often have two gmail tabs open both different views of my email
  42. # [11:46] <anne2> it does make some amount of sense if they can share a single state thingy that also does the network traffic
  43. # [11:46] <Marcos> yes, it would be nice if they shared localStorage, for instance.
  44. # [11:47] <anne2> that they already do...
  45. # [11:47] <Marcos> On the widget side, I mean
  46. # [11:47] <Marcos> We are currently working on that problem in the widgets:// spec.
  47. # [11:48] <Marcos> however, I wonder if you could have 1 widget logged in under account A, and another under account B?
  48. # [11:48] <Marcos> s/another/another instance
  49. # [11:49] <Marcos> that would be tricky neat... but use cases for that are really limited
  50. # [11:51] * Quits: Lachy (Lachlan@85.196.122.246) (Quit: This computer has gone to sleep)
  51. # [11:52] <anne2> I'm stilll not quite clear on why it's overly complicated
  52. # [11:53] <anne2> anyway, back to work
  53. # [11:53] <Marcos> i guess it's just if it could be done in 1 page, it would be less complicated.
