  92. # [18:35] <Hixie> Sirisian|Work: prohibitive how?
  93. # [18:41] <Sirisian|Work> Hixie, sorry my coworker needed my computer. I just mean it's not as feature rich as other languages. operator overloading etc. But that's not the point really. It doesn't get updated much at all and has a standard that's static. Imagine a byte code assembly type common language that people could use. You could write in any programming language that has a compiler to the common language. So people could optimize the code for the byte code then
  94. # [18:41] <Sirisian|Work> the browser that only understands the common language could JIT or do whatever it wanted.

  97. # [18:41] <Hixie> JS is being updated quite a lot recently
  98. # [18:42] <Hixie> but to answer your original question, no, though Google has some experiments in that area: http://code.google.com/p/nativeclient/
  99. # [18:44] <Dashiva> Even apart from es5, javascript has been extended piece by piece by browsers too

  101. # [19:13] <gsnedders> Sirisian|Work: Also, whatever bytecode you choose the impls still have to do validation of the input; it's entirely possible you wouldn't gain much by creating a new backwards incompatible bytecode serialization instead of just using ECMAScript as the bytecode serialization
  102. # [19:13] <gsnedders> (Which is already happening to a certain extent, see, e.g., Google Web Toolkit)
  103. # [19:16] <Sirisian|Work> One moment I have to go to class. I'm going to watch that video presentation before I make another statement. It might be what I'm thinking of.
