Added a feed

Just added an RSS feed (Atom) to this beautiful website, and I immediately have some questions already. Like, why am I writing XML by hand? It's 2026.

While typing <link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" href="/log.atom"> in the <head> I wondered, shouldn't that <link> only be added to /log? Technically it's only an alternative for that page. Not for blog posts itself, and not for my homepage either.

Glad Anne had the same thoughts 21 years ago, so it's probably not something to worry about anymore. Stop overthinking.

So there you have it, a minimal feed. Will add more stuff when I want to.

Oh, and I've redirected my previous feed URLs with a 301, in case anyone was still subscribed. My server logs don't think so, but Cool URIs don't change.

No idea how popular feeds are nowadays. I'm a huge NetNewsWire user myself, and still read daily, but my frontend students had never heard about RSS feeds when I told them what they were. “It’s like podcasts — but for reading.”

Some of the feeds I shared with them a while ago:
