I just ran into this issue. According to w3schools.com (http://www.w3schools.com/tags/standardattributes.asp and http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_select.asp) the accesskey attribute is valid for the select element. According to W3C it isn't (http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/interact/forms.html#adef-accesskey). Also this testpage, http://krijnhoetmer.nl/help/accesskey.html, doesn't validate in html 4.01 and xhtml 1.0 transitional. The accesskey isn't a standard attribute, as far as I can read.
